TCL’s latest pro tablet, which was unveiled at CES 2024, aims to be unique. Beyond the yearly releases from Apple and Samsung, there aren’t many high-end tablets available. TCL intends to differentiate its new 14- and 10-inch slates with its display technology, which includes its next-generation NXTPAPER 3.0. Its goal is to find a medium ground between tablets and e-readers. They should be kinder to our very human sight rather than faster or sharper.
With its innovative VersaView interface, which allows users to alternate between regular tablet views and a black-and-white reader mode, the TCL NXTPAPER 14 Pro’s display features place a strong emphasis on eye comfort. The company’s new NXTPAPER 3.0 is featured on the 14-inch 2.8K display (2,880 x 1,800), which aims to more accurately replicate how the human eye reads the natural paper on a digital display. TCL’s NXTPAPER display technology aims to provide a tablet experience with a reading surface that resembles paper. Previous versions, which can be found in gadgets like the NXTPAPER 11 tablet and some of its more recent low-cost cellphones, have been covered by us.
The TCL 50 XL NTXPAPER 5G and 50 XE NTXPAPER 5G are two of the company’s seven upcoming phone models that will reportedly include NXTPAPER 3.0 technology. With 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, the NXTPAPER 14 Pro is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 8020 CPU, which is adequate but not particularly impressive. It is all about the display.
According to TCL, the TCL Nxtpaper 14 Pro series keeps blocking up to 61 percent of blue light to lessen its negative impact on users’ eyes. With a brightness of 700 nits on the 14-inch matte panel, version 3.0 is brighter. In addition to lighting text more naturally, a new Circularly Polarized Light (CPL) screen should make text easier to view in direct sunlight. According to TCL, this produces a reading experience that is more like reading a book in natural light. Additionally, DC dimming should lessen the flickering effects that certain panels with lower refresh rates encounter. The NXTPAPER 14 Pro can achieve refresh rates of up to 120 Hz in tablet mode, and its unique CPL technology ensures that legibility is maintained even when wearing polarizing lenses.

On a 10.4-inch, 2K (2,560 x 1,440) screen, the Tab 10 NXTPAPER 5G offers part of the same display technology (NXTPAPER 3.0). not to mention a button for the viewing mode. It does, however, support 5G technology.
TCL has developed an Eye Health Assistant to nudge you to lower screen brightness or maybe avoid staring at your new tablet at midnight, just to be sure you understand. In addition, the NXTPAPER 14 Pro features a tactile button specifically designed for flipping between its three viewing modes. Users can alternate between using the tablet in conventional tablet mode and TCL Nxtpaper 14 Promode thanks to the VersaView UI.
The latter is a monochrome e-ink-style (but not e-ink!) mode that is rarely seen on devices going to the United States. But this goes beyond the tablet just converting the Android UI to grayscale. The interface has a lot more white backdrops and blank space for easier viewing, as well as simplified icons that resemble line drawings but can still be distinguished from one another.
