An extended exploration of one of the most eagerly awaited PS5 games of 2024.
Sony quickly announced to the public the date of the upcoming State of Play, announcing that it will be a digital event presentation centered around Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Sony announced after the January 2024 State of Play event that it will host a presentation devoted to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on February 6. Sony has previously hosted State of Play events exclusively for PlayStation exclusives like Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us Part II, and Horizon: Forbidden West. This is not the first time the company has done so.
Before any reviews are released and before Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is made available to the general public on February 29, this will probably be the last in-depth look at the game. The second installment of a trilogy that would recreate Square Enix’s seminal 1997 JRPG Final Fantasy VII is called Rebirth.
Rebirth continues where the events of Final Fantasy VII Remake left off, following Cloud and his comrades as they depart from Midgar and travel to new places. Party members Vincent and Cait Sith are confirmed to make their debuts, and locations like the Mythril Mine and Kalm are reported to be in Rebirth.
During our initial hands-on experience with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, my colleague Bo Moore stated: “Rebirth feels different, but also extremely familiar story-wise. This is also because of the stark contrast in scale and presentation; just as in Remake, sections that were formerly barren or sparse have been extended into lush zones to explore. However, there are also other adjustments that, while largely insignificant, still cause the story to unfold differently than what aficionados of the first FF7 are accustomed to.”
