Following the release of the Quest 3, Meta is permanently lowering the cost of its Oculus Quest 2 VR headset to $250, according to a Quest Blog update that TechCrunch was able to see. Although the Quest 2 has been discounted from that price since Black Friday, the new retail price may result in even better offers for the device from the previous generation.

We knew we could do even more to make VR more affordable and bring even more people into the community… that’s why we’re permanently lowering prices on Quest 2 and its accessories, effective January 1.

In other words, the 256GB Quest 2 costs $300, while the 128GB variant is currently $250. Additionally, Meta is lowering the cost of reconditioned units to $230 and $270, respectively. You can find comparable prices on Amazon.

The cost of Oculus Quest 2 VR accessories has been decreased; the most notable reduction is from $120 to $90 for the Elite Strap with battery. The carrying bag is now only $45, the Active Pack is now $60, the normal Elite Strap is $50, and the Quest 2 Fit Pack is now $40 instead of $50.

Due to its low $300 starting price, the Oculus Quest 2 VR quickly gained popularity among VR headsets; however, when Meta raised the price to $400 in the middle of 2022, the initial excitement subsided. With better screens and lenses, a more compact design, faster performance, mixed reality cameras, and more, the $500 Quest 3 represented a significant advancement.

Though there are hundreds of VR games available, such as Resident Evil 4, Beat Saber, and the recently released Roblox game, the Oculus Quest 2 VR is still a fantastic introduction to the VR genre. At that price, it’s even more appealing right now, and over the following year, sales may drive further down.
