If you were among the almost 200,000 consumers who placed a pre-order for the Apple Vision Pro Headset you’re probably eager to see what Apple’s “vision” for mixed reality entails. The Vision Pro goes on sale today.

According to early reports, Apple might be onto something big. With a starting price of $3,499, the headset is indeed pricey, but the integrated experiences are amazing and engaging. With the Apple Vision Pro headset, you can work on a virtual Mac and enjoy a movie in the desert without getting off your couch, thanks to Apple’s design.

However, the experience Apple has chosen for the Vision Pro isn’t what will make or break it: It’s the support for third-party apps. The Apple Vision Pro headset will be little more than an ostentatious Apple demo in the absence of a marketplace with specialized apps and services.

Fortunately, things appear to be going well: Apple revealed today that over one million iOS and iPadOS apps are compatible with the Vision Pro, in addition to over 600 games and apps created especially for it.

While the 600+ Vision Pro apps that new users might anticipate finding in the visionOS App Store are not listed in Apple’s press release, certain noteworthy possibilities are highlighted: The PGA TOUR Vision allows you to watch the tour in your living room; the Vision Pro NBA app allows you to stream five live broadcasts or on demand, with scores and stats showing next to your feeds; the Max app allows you to watch movies and TV shows in various Max locations (you can watch House of the Dragon in the Iron Throne Room, for example); and of course, Apple created the Apple TV app to utilize the unique immersion technology of the Vision Pro.

Additionally, Apple features a few apps that can be useful while working with the Vision Pro: OmniFocus and OmniPlan are apps for project management visualization; Box is an app that helps you manage files and content like 3D objects in virtual space; MindNode is an app that lets you add thinking bubbles throughout your area to keep track of essential notes. Although Apple claims that you can use “Microsoft 365 productivity apps,” it’s unclear if this refers to native versions of Word and Excel programs. Nevertheless, you may participate in calls from Teams, Zoom, and Webex, and you can use the pre-existing Slack, Notion, Todoist, and other apps.

The Apple Vision Pro headset has over 250 games, such as TMNT Splintered Fate, Sonic Dream Team, and NBA 2K24 Arcade Edition. Synth Riders, LEGO Builder’s Journey, Super Fruit Ninja, Game Room, WHAT THE GOLF?, Cut the Rope 3, Jetpack Joyride 2, Bloons TD 6+, stitch., Patterned, Illustrated, and Wylde Flowers are just a few of the activities created especially for the Vision Pro if you have an Apple Arcade subscription. Along with the typical gaming experiences from Lies of P and Baldur’s Gate 3, there are also original experiences from games like Loóna, Void-X, and Saktrix Pro.
