There’s no disputing that Apple AirPods Max are a great set of premium over-ear headphones that incorporate all of the best features of the in-ear AirPods. However, the primary disadvantage of the AirPods Max is its hefty normal price of $550. A new Amazon offer pulls $100 off the regular price, easing some of the sticker shock. In our evaluation, we awarded the Apple AirPods Max an 84 out of 10. The controls, balanced sound, active noise cancellation, and up to 20 hours of battery life (with spatial audio and ANC turned on) were all appreciated. Some features of Apple AirPods Max
To support the additional weight, the headband is notably wider than on typical headphones. Its metal frame is covered in breathable mesh, a plush material that eases strain. Telescoping arms that may be adjusted for a perfect fit secure the headband to the earcups. In addition, the cups may pivot and spin to suit your head.
The weight of the AirPods Max is among its most unexpected features. More than 130 grams heavier than Sony’s WH-1000XM4, they weigh close to 385 grams. Even more unexpected is the fact that the weight isn’t really a problem. Despite this, they’re actually quite comfortable. But because of the soft memory foam and my large head, I can feel the earcup rings after just a few minutes, so these aren’t the greatest headphones I’ve tested in that area. However, that was the only cause of the discomfort, and weight is unrelated to it.
The Max lacks an accompanying app, just like regular AirPods. iOS comes with all the software you could ever need. (To use them, you’ll need to update to 14.3) To access all of the customizable options, simply hit the “i” icon next to the device name in the Bluetooth menu. The ANC button’s functionality can be manually adjusted by adding “off,” in which case neither ANC nor transparency are active. You can also manually change the noise control (ANC, off, transparency). Control Center also provides access to spatial audio, noise reduction, and loudness. The digital crown’s rotation can be adjusted from front to back or back to front.
The Apple AirPods Max provide a more “natural” sound for those who want that kind of experience. Although it works a lot, Apple’s adaptive EQ is not intrusive. I think the business did a good job here, while some may prefer the WH-1000XM3 and others’ more bass-forward acoustics. More genres than most headphones are compatible with it, and its natural profile brings out the subtler subtleties and open, airy sound.
