Expected news for AMD Although there hasn’t been much information released recently on the AMD Ryzen 8000 series and Zen 5 architecture, it appears that leaked presentation slides contain information about the upcoming CPUs, including Zen 6 variants (via Videocardz)
First and foremost, a gain of 10–15% in instructions per cycle (IPC) is promised for the Zen 5 ‘Nirvana’ architecture, which will comprise the AMD Ryzen 8000 series. This is significant since it represents the first time that AMD has reportedly released official numbers. As you would anticipate from a new architecture, an increase in IPC of up to 15% will significantly improve both single and multi-threaded performance and is independent of frequency.
AMD Ryzen 8000 Series
The higher-end Zen 4 Ryzen 7000 CPUs from the company have a problem with using two 8-core complexes. Workload distribution has resulted in performance declines for CPUs like the Ryzen 9 7950X and Ryzen 9 7900X, while less expensive versions like the Ryzen 7 7800X and Ryzen 5 7700X are occasionally faster in software and games.
The Zen 5 specification is intriguing because it states that a 16-core complex will be used, which may solve these problems. AMD implemented a similar change in Threadripper 2000 and Threadripper 3000, granting equal access to the PCIe bus and memory bus for core complex dies. Though the performance gain was not as great as having every core on a single core complex, Threadripper became an all-powerful high-end desktop platform as a result.
It should, at minimum, indicate that the more expensive Ryzen 9 variants don’t outperform the more affordable ones in terms of overall performance because of their internal architectures. Nevertheless, the 16-core complex might just be used in the low-power Zen 5c, or it might be used in combination with another CPU, as has already been rumored to be the case with AMD’s upcoming APUs. Here, we’ll have to wait for further information.
